The district of Kuçova ( Albanian : Rrethi i Kuçovës ) was one of the 36 administrative districts of Albania that were abolished in the summer of 2015 after an administrative reform. With an area of 112 square kilometers, it is the smallest district in the country. He belonged to the Qark Berat . In 2011 lived in the district lived 27,281 inhabitants. This was more than the population of many other districts, some of which were almost ten times larger.
The district was named after the capital Kuçova .
geography
Kuçova is located at the transition from the Central Albanian Myzeqe Plain to the southern Albanian mountain landscape. The western border of the district was mostly formed by the Osum River, the northern border mainly by the Devoll .
Berat, the largest city in the region, is only 15 kilometers away from Kuçova.
economy
Kuçova is the center of the Albanian oil industry; Oil has been produced here since the 1930s. Since the end of communism , however, many oil wells have stood still. The pollution by oil production is serious in part: Many lines and springs lose oil.
The military airfield of the Albanian Air Force near Kuçova is one of their few bases that are still in use. The jet fleet consisting of outdated MiGs and Shenyang planes from the 1950s is no longer in service.

The area of the former district today forms the municipality ( Bashkia ) Kuçova , to which the municipality Lumas (3981 inhabitants; 79.18 square kilometers) has also been added.
