The Tropoja district ( Albanian Rrethi i Tropojës ) was one of the 36 administrative districts in Albania that were abolished in the summer of 2015 after an administrative reform. The area of the district with an area of 1043 square kilometers in the Kukës district today forms the municipality of Tropoja . The main town was the small town of Bajram Curr .
Tropoja is located in northeast Albania on the border with Kosovo and Montenegro on the eastern edge of the Albanian Alps . The district had around 20,517 inhabitants (2011). The name of the district comes from the small town of Tropoja , the historic center of the region of the same name.
