State Sportsman of the Year (Bremen)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The long jumper Sebastian Bayer was Bremen Sportsman of the Year 2009.

The Bremen Sportsman of the Year award has been presented since 1980. The most remarkable sporting achievements by athletes from the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen are awarded . So far, two foreigners have received the award: in 1989 the Norwegian soccer player Rune Bratseth and in 2004 the Greek soccer player Angelos Charisteas . In 1997, an additional award category for the best team of the year was launched. Since then, the dance sports clubs have dominated this rating, and have been in the world class for years with various world and European championship titles. The Green Gold Club Bremen won the Bremen Team of the Year award seven times in a row between 2003 and 2009. Since 2014, cross-gender awards have also been given to young athletes.

The award ceremony usually took place retrospectively for the past year, usually at the “Ball des Sports” organized by the Landessportbund Bremen (LSB) in the spring of the new year in the Congress Center Bremen on the Bürgerweide . In 2012, according to the LSB, the award ceremony should only take place in “a small festive setting”. The electoral process has changed several times in recent years. At times it was a combination of audience and expert jury selection, with the guests at the gala still having voting rights. The final result was determined from these three votes and announced that same evening during the event. For example, a total of over 3,500 votes were cast for the 2009 athlete of the year election, of which more than 2000 came from internet voting and around 900 from ball guests. Since the “Ball des Sports” was canceled in 2011 due to insufficient sponsor support, the award ceremony took place on March 23rd in the Upper Town Hall . For this reason, the allocation of votes was weighted differently: 50 percent went to the public vote of the readers of the Weser-Kurier , its online edition and the LSB monthly magazine Bremer Sport , the other half to the jury. In 2012, only one online public vote will be held, which will be presented on the Weser-Kurier and Nordsee-Zeitung websites .

The national athletes of the year 2013 were determined by an eight-member jury made up of sports journalists and officials and honored at a gala in the GOP Varieté Theater .
