Lennon is a four-CD compilation album by John Lennon that contains 73 tracks but does not contain any unreleased recordings. It is the seventh posthumously released album after Lennon's death in 1980. Including the eight solo studio albums, the three avant-garde albums with his wife Yoko Ono , the two live albums, the interview album and the compilation albums, it is John Lennon's 19th album in total . It was released on October 29, 1990 in the UK and on October 4, 1990 in the US .

History of origin

The largest ever compilation album by John Lennon was put together by Mark Lewisohn . The four CDs each have their own covers and are in a cardboard slipcase; further content is a 78-page booklet listing all the lyrics.

The first CD includes four tracks from Live Peace in Toronto 1969 , here in the original mix, three single A-sides, all eleven tracks by John Lennon / Plastic Ono Band and a live track with Frank Zappa .

The second CD includes nine songs from Imagine , three from Some Time in New York City , five from Mind Games , two from Live in New York City, and a single A-side.

The third CD includes nine tracks from Walls and Bridges , six from Rock 'n' Roll , one from Menlove Ave. , as well as the three live tracks Whatever Gets You thru the Night , Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds and I Saw Her Standing There , these were released on November 28, 1974 during a concert by Elton John in Madison Square Garden , at which John Lennon appeared as a surprise guest , recorded. This is Lennon's last live appearance in front of a concert audience, released as a 12 '' single in March 1981. I Saw Her Standing There was released in February 1975 as the b-side of the Elton John single Philadelphia Freedom . Elton John released remixed versions of these three tracks in March 1995 as the B-sides of his CD single Made in England .

The fourth CD contains all 14 published songs from the albums Double Fantasy and Milk and Honey sung by John Lennon .
