introduction

John Lennon's first solo project came about in 1968 when he was still a member of the Beatles . On November 29, 1968, Lennon released the album Unfinished Music No.1: Two Virgins with the Japanese avant-garde artist Yoko Ono , whom he met in 1966 and married in 1969 . This album, as well as the two albums that followed in 1969, Unfinished Music No. 2: Life with the Lions and the Wedding Album were experimental music that was largely influenced by Yoko Ono. Until the Beatles officially split up in April 1970, the three singles Give Peace a Chance , Cold Turkey and Instant Karma! as well as the live album Live Peace in Toronto 1969 . John Lennon released six studio albums from 1970 to 1975, including Some Time in New York City with Yoko Ono. With the end of his record contract with EMI , the compilation Shaved Fish was released in 1975 , which also heralded Lennon's five-year musical break. In 1980 the couple started a comeback with the joint studio album Double Fantasy , on which Lennon and Ono were each represented with seven songs.

On December 8, 1980, John Lennon was shot dead in front of the Dakota Building by a mentally confused assassin in New York . Since then, Milk and Honey , Menlove Ave. , John Lennon Anthology and Acoustic - all albums with unreleased titles or alternate versions of published songs. 1986 saw a second live album with Live in New York City on the market. It contained recordings from 1972. Several compilation albums and video material were also released. Between the years 2000 and 2005, the studio albums were released in newly remastered and partly newly mixed versions; mostly with bonus material. In October 2010, on the occasion of John Lennon's 70th birthday, all studio albums - remastered again, but without bonus material - were re-released. Two compilation boxes also appeared. The signature box contains all eight remastered studio albums plus a CD with non-album singles and B-sides , as well as another CD with demo recordings. The box Gimme Some Truth with four CDs contains songs by Lennon arranged thematically. The album Double Fantasy Stripped Down , also released in October 2010, contains the remastered album from 1980 and a CD with a complete remix made by Jack Douglas and Yoko Ono.
