Letitia Tyler

Letitia Christian Tyler (born November 12, 1790 in Virginia, † September 10, 1842 in Washington, DC ) was the first wife of the 10th US President John Tyler . She was the First Lady of the United States from 1841 until her death in 1842.

Letitia Christian was born on her family's cotton plantation in Virginia. She married Tyler on March 29, 1813 when he was celebrating his 23rd birthday. The couple had eight children.

Later she got sick. By the time John became president, she was already very weak. Letitia lived in a room on the second floor of the White House. She could no longer take over her social activities, but she watched over the household.

Letitia died on September 10, 1842. She was the first first lady to die in the White House.
