The list of mountain groups in the Western Alps shows all 31 mountain groups of the Western Alps from an orographic point of view as in the Alpine Club classification (AVE) for the Eastern Alps. They are divided into two parts, with the western part making up the entire share of France and Monaco (i.e. between Lake Geneva and Ligurian Sea ) and the eastern predominantly that of Switzerland (i.e. between Lake Constance and Matterhorn ), while Italy is represented in both. The overview maps of both parts are integrated in the list.
The list does not describe the mountain groups as they are e.g. B. be classified according to SOIUSA or by the Swiss Alpine Club (SAC). In Switzerland, in addition to the AVE, the more canton-oriented SAC classification is often used for the eastern part, with even the same names being used with different expansions.
No .: Indicates the group number, whereby the numbering according to AVE (1 - 68 of the Eastern Alps) is continued; eastern part No. 69 - 81, southwest part 82 - 99 (no official numbering) .
