The Schwyz Alps are a mountain group in Switzerland . It is located in the northeast of the Western Alps and covers the canton of Schwyz and parts of the cantons of Lucerne , Zug , Uri and Glarus .

Location and area

The area is bordered (clockwise from north) by Linth , Fätschbach , Klausenpass , Vorder Schächen , Schächen , Reuss , Lake Lucerne , Lake Zug and Lake Zurich and covers an area of ​​1400 km².

The group is very diverse: from gently rolling pre-alpine mountains in the north, which are partially interrupted by steep rocks, to high alpine peaks near the three-thousand-meter line in the southeast, there are many variations in the shape and character of their mountains.
