Forest parks
The forest parks can best be compared with the German state forest . They are under state administration and forestry may only be operated in a controlled manner with approval. There are also community forests that are managed by the villages. The most famous of the forest parks is probably the Bijilo Forest Park . In the immediate vicinity of the Senegambia Area in Kololi , he invites tourists to get to know the nature of the Gambia.
For the community forest program with the community forests Gambia is a silver prize at the 2011 World's best forest laws ( English Future Policy Award ) by the World Future Council has been excellent.

Protected areas on private initiative
- The Bolong Fenyo Community Wildlife Reserve near Gunjur covers 320 hectares and was established in 2008 on the initiative of Gunjur residents. It is the first protected area of a village community in Gambia.
- The near-Buteh Mahogany Park in Berrending , east of Gunjur, was set up of 2006. It contains 40 mahogany trees such as the Khaya senegalensis on a site with a circumference of 1500 m (around 10 hectares) .
