Littenheid is a village and a former municipality southwest of Wil SG in a dry valley in the Thurgau municipality of Sirnach in Switzerland . The Clienia private clinic for psychiatry and psychotherapy is located in Littenheid .
Littenheid includes Stöcklihalde, Weiherhof, Talhof and Waldegg.
history
The former Burgsäss Littenheid was first mentioned as Litinhaidi around 1160/70 . Littenheid belonged to the Tannegg office from the late Middle Ages until 1798 . Ecclesiastically it always shared the fate of the parish of Sirnach. In 1812 the previously independent municipality of Littenheid was joined to the local municipality of Busswil , which in 1997 became part of the political municipality of Sirnach.
In 1897 Jakob Uehlinger-Schwyn took over a so-called retirement asylum founded in 1883 and expanded it into a sanatorium and nursing home . This resulted in a state-approved private clinic for psychiatry and psychotherapy, which has belonged to the Schwyn family since 1917. Gradually, the entire settlement was transformed into a rural “clinic village”. As part of the health care reforms in the 1990s, the clinic was restructured and the number of beds reduced. In 2005 the clinic had 235 beds and 12 day clinic places . In 2016 the Schwyn family sold their shares in the Clienia group.
