history

Oberhofen was around 1160/70 as Obirhovin mentioned and belonged to the late Middle Ages until 1798 Lower court to Tannegg Office and Landgraviate Thurgau . Ecclesiastically, Oberhofen shared the fate of the Sirnach parish ; since 1935 the Reformed majority belonged to the parish of Münchwilen - Eschlikon . The typical industrial village on the eastern slope of the Tuttwiler Berg is connected to Münchwilen by a ford or, since 1774, by the Murg bridge. The largest factory in Oberhofen is the former Sutter shoe wax factory , which went to Unilever (today Diversey ) after the death of Alfred Sutter and provided around 370 jobs in 2009.

From 1803 to 1950 the local community of Oberhofen belonged to the municipality of Sirnach. In 1871 the Holzmannshaus , Knechtlishaus and Pfannenstiel settlements were assigned to the Oberhofen community by the former Holzmannshaus community. In 1950 the local parishes of Oberhofen, Münchwilen and St. Margarethen merged to form the unified community of Münchwilen, against the resistance of the other local parishes belonging to the Sirnach municipality .

Remarks

  1. In contrast to the other two sources, the Historical Lexicon of Switzerland describes the municipality with courtyards that existed until 1871 .
