Horben , southwest of Sirnach , was a local parish and a village and is now part of the Sirnach community in the Münchwilen district of the Swiss canton of Thurgau .

geography

Horben, in front the bank of the Murg

Horben is located off the traffic routes shortly after Sirnach on the left of the Murg .

With the hamlets of Hurnen, Riethof and Than, Horben formed a local parish of the Sirnach municipality from 1812 to 1996 . Since 1997 the place Horben belongs to the political municipality Sirnach and the hamlets Hurnen, Riethof and Than belong to the political municipality Eschlikon .

history

Parish before the merger in 1997

The field name Horben probably comes from the Middle High German horb " swamp , moorland ". Horben was part of the Tannegger Office , which was owned by Fischingen Abbey from 1693 to 1798 . Ecclesiastically, the majority Reformed Horben always belonged to Sirnach.

In the 19th century agriculture was replaced by cattle breeding, dairy farming and fruit growing. In 1865 a dairy company was founded. While weaving was widespread in the 19th century , around 1900 embroidery brought important additional income to smallholders.

Although detached houses have been built in Horben recently, the village has retained its character as a farming village to this day.
