Magali Di Marco Messmer (born September 9, 1971 in La Chaux-de-Fonds as Magali Messmer ) is a Swiss long-distance runner who also competed as a triathlete in races over the Olympic distance (1.5 km swimming, 40 km cycling and 10 km running) started.
Career
She began swimming at the age of ten and won several Swiss championship titles at junior level. In 1995 she took part in a triathlon for the first time and immediately became Swiss champion in the same year. Six further championship titles followed in 1996, 1999, 2000, 2005, 2006 and 2007.
In 1999 and 2000 she was second at the European Triathlon Championships.
Olympic Games 2000
Messmer celebrated her greatest success at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney , when she won the bronze medal behind Brigitte McMahon from Switzerland and Michellie Jones from Australia . She then announced her resignation, but returned after three years to top-class sport and established herself again at the top of the world.
From 2005 to 2007 she won the Swiss championship three times in a row.
Olympic Games 2008
In 2008 she started again at the Olympic Games in Beijing for Switzerland and finished in 13th place.
In the 15 years from 1995 to 2009 Magali Di Marco took part in 73 ITU competitions and achieved 43 top ten placements, in 2009 she was number 8 among the 106 world's best triathletes in the World Championship ranking.
In France, Magali Di Marco took part in the Lyonnaise des Eaux club championship series in 2010 and represented the Triathlon Club Châteauroux there . In August 2010 she finished third in the Swiss Triathlon Championships and won the Lausanne Marathon .
In April 2014 she qualified in the marathon in Zurich for the 2014 European Athletics Championships , where she finished 44th in August.
Personal
Magali Messmer has been married since 2001, has one son and lives in Troistorrents . In collaboration with the Swiss Accident Insurance Fund (SUVA), Messmer organizes training camps for beginners and young people.
