Mark Allen (born February 22, 1986 in Antrim ) is a professional snooker from Northern Ireland .

Career

Allen won numerous titles as an amateur. In 2004 he became IBSF amateur world champion and EBSA European champion and in 2005 EBSA U19 European champion . He has been a professional on the Snooker Main Tour since the 2005/06 season . He played a good debut season there and secured his first participation in the finals of a major ranking tournament with four wins in qualifying at the Malta Cup . After surviving the wildcard round, he lost to Shaun Murphy 2: 5 in the first main round .

In 2007 he qualified for the finals of a world championship for the first time . After his opening win over Ken Doherty, he lost to Matthew Stevens in the round of 16 . After just two seasons he was among the 32 best in the world snooker rankings .

At the Northern Ireland Trophy , he moved into the semi-finals of a ranking tournament for the first time in 2007. He achieved other good results in 2008 at the China Open and the Bahrain Championship , where he reached the quarter and semi-finals.

At the 2009 World Cup he defeated, among others, defending champion Ronnie O'Sullivan and only failed in the semifinals to John Higgins . In 2009 he won the Jiangsu Classic Main Tour invitation tournament with a clear 6-0 final victory over Ding Junhui . At the 2010 World Cup , he failed in the quarterfinals to Graeme Dott . At the UK Championship 2010 he once again made it into the semi-finals of a ranking tournament. The following year he made his first appearance in the final of a ranking tournament at the same event , but he had to admit defeat to Judd Trump with 8:10.

In March 2012, Allen finally won his first ranking tournament when he clearly defeated Stephen Lee 10-1 in the final of the Haikou World Open . In October he won his first tournament on the PTC series with the Antwerp Open .

In early March 2013, Allen defended his title at the Haikou World Open when he defeated Matthew Stevens 10-4 in the final. Then he moved up to 6th place in the world rankings . In October 2013 he won the Ruhr Open, which was held for the first time in the 2013/14 season , with a 4-1 final victory over Ding Junhui. A month later, he won another PTC tournament with the 2013 Kay Suzanne Memorial Cup .

In August 2014 he reached the final of the Riga Open , where he lost a 3-0 lead against Mark Selby and lost in the end with 3-4. In the same month, Allen defeated Judd Trump 4-2 in the final of the Paul Hunter Classic and thus won his fourth title in a tournament of the Players Tour Championship . At his next tournament, the Shanghai Masters , he also reached the final, including a contested 6: 5 semi-final victory over world number one Mark Selby. He then clearly lost the final against Stuart Bingham 3:10. At the beginning of November 2014 he reached another final at the International Championship , but lost to Ricky Walden there with 7:10.

Allen won his fifth PTC title at the Bulgarian Open 2015 with a 4-0 win over Ryan Day . In March 2016 he won the final tournament of the Players Tour Championship 2015/16 by beating Ricky Walden 10: 6 in the final.

At the UK Championship 2016 , he scored his first official maximum break in round two, in the 7th frame of the game against Rod Lawler .

In 2018 he won the Masters after victories over Luca Brecel (6: 3), Ronnie O'Sullivan (6: 1) and John Higgins (6: 3) with a 10: 7 final victory over Kyren Wilson ; it was the first Masters victory by a Northern Irishman since 1987.

At the World Cup , Allen beat Liam Highfield as seeded player 10-5 in the first round and Joe Perry , who had previously eliminated Mark Selby, 13-8 in round two . In the quarterfinals he failed 6:13 to Kyren Wilson.

The 2018/19 snooker season was successful for Allen, he won the International Championship against Neil Robertson and the Scottish Open against Shaun Murphy and reached the final of the UK Championship , where he lost to Ronnie O'Sullivan .

Personal

Mark Allen was in a relationship with multiple world champion and first place in the women's snooker rankings, Reanne Evans . A daughter emerged from the relationship. On May 10, 2013, he married his girlfriend Kyla McGuigan.
