The McCreery 3-Cushion Champion of Champions 2018 (English McCreery 3-Cushion Champion of Champions ) was a three -cushion invitation tournament in this discipline of carom billiards and took place from August 5th to 11th, 2018 on Long Island , New York in the United States of America instead.

history

In 2016, at the Verhoeven Open in New York, the public announced for the first time that an American billiards patron and billionaire would like to host a three-cushion tournament with high prize money. After a meeting with UMB President Farouk el-Barki on January 20-22, 2018, it was decided to officially add this tournament to the calendar as a UMB tournament. The tournament is to take place on the patron's property. For this he built a house in which three billiard tables can be set up. The tables of the American billiards company "Rok Billiards" are equipped with many extras (e.g. cameras in the boards). There are also cameras in the billiard room, as well as specially developed software, so that all billiards can be displayed from different perspectives. For the first edition, no public spectator seats will be allocated so that the tournament can only be followed via Kozoom . International referees have also been invited to this tournament. This makes it a tournament at the highest three-cushion level.

The name of the tournament Champion of Champions was chosen because 9 world champions and one 4-time junior world champion take part in the tournament. The tournament is named after the businessman and likely inventor of the three- band Wayman McCreery (1851–1901) from St. Louis, Missouri. McCreery was also a very successful athlete of his time. The time of the first event is the 140th anniversary of the first three-band tournament in 1878, 50 years before the first World Cup in Reims, France, in 1928.

mode

The game was played in round robin mode (everyone against everyone) up to 40 points. At the end of this round, the first four played the finalists in a knockout system (1 against 4 and 2 against 3). The knockout games were played up to 50 points. As always in the USA, all games were played without a kick .

The first six places in the world rankings (as of December 31, 2017) were set for the tournament. There were also six wildcard players determined by the host. All except the Americans are three-cushion world champions.
