Meiberger - In the head of the perpetrator (working title: Meiberger - Der Alpenkrimi ) is an Austrian television series with Fritz Karl as court psychologist Thomas Meiberger, Ulrike C. Tscharre as public prosecutor Barbara Simma and Cornelius Obonya as detective inspector Nepoumuk "Nepo" Wallner. Otto Schenk plays a retired court president and fatherly friend and mentor of Thomas Meiberger.

The series has been broadcast on ServusTV on Tuesday ( ServusTV Austria) and Friday (ServusTV Germany) in the main evening since November 6, 2018 . After Trakehner Blood and A Couch for Everyone , this is another fictional television series from the private television broadcaster ServusTV. In April 2019 it was announced that a second season would be produced. The first broadcast of the second season ran from November 5, 2019 on ServusTV Austria and from November 8, 2019 on ServusTV Germany.

Thomas Meiberger is a forensic court psychologist who helps solve crimes in the greater Salzburg area . Public Prosecutor Barbara Simma always calls him for help when the evidence and evidence gathered by the executive are insufficient to investigate the perpetrator.

His counterpart is Detective Inspector Nepoumuk "Nepo" Wallner, who is married to Meiberger's ex-wife Karo. Karo lives with Thomas Meibergers and their 15-year-old son Patrick in Sankt Gilgen . In his private life, Thomas Meiberger works as a magician , he delights with his magic shows, which are a strong connection to his son Patrick. Just like this shared hobby, magic, used to be Meiberger's connection to his father.

The series deals with criminal cases based on real psychological phenomena. The combination of analytical psychology and illusions gives Meiberger unusual opportunities to convict the perpetrators.

Production and Background

The shooting of the first season took place from June 26th to October 26th, 2018, locations were Sankt Gilgen as well as Salzburg and the surrounding area and Vienna . The production was supported by the State of Salzburg . The series is produced by the Austrian Monafilm.

Thomas Zachmeier (episodes 1 to 4) and Oliver Don (episodes 5 to 8) were responsible for the editing, Brigitta Fink for the costume design, Vesna Muhr for the production design, Roland Winkler for the sound and Tatjana Bösch for the makeup.

In April 2019 it was announced that a second season would be produced. Like the first season, this consists of eight episodes, the shooting started in June 2019, the broadcast was planned for the main evening from November 2019 on ServusTV. The director took Peter Baumann (episodes 1 to 4) and Matthias Zuder (episodes 5 to 8).

In July 2020, filming began on the third season, directed by Michael Podogil. Thomas Müller and Manuel Horeth are available to advise production.

The godfather for the title character Thomas Meiberger was Alexander Gappmaier, a Salzburg forensic psychologist and hobby magician, who acts as a specialist advisor for psychology and magic in the series and was on stage as a magician together with ServusTV director Ferdinand Wegscheider . Wegscheider made a brief appearance on a magic show in the third episode of the series.

Jens Schröder wrote on Meedia that the production quality would meet the standards of significantly larger broadcasters.
