Minneola is a city in Lake County in the US state of Florida with 9403 inhabitants (as of 2010).
geography
Minneola borders directly on the city of Clermont in the south . The city is about 25 km south of Tavares and about 30 km west of Orlando . The lake of the same name borders the city in the west .
history
The city of Minneola was founded in 1926. The Orange Belt Railway, completed in 1888, once ran through Minneola from Sanford to Saint Petersburg . After several takeovers, the line was shut down when the Seaboard Coast Line Railroad was founded in 1967.
Demographic data
According to the 2010 census, the then 9,403 inhabitants were distributed over 3,693 households. The population density was 1190.3 inh / km². 76.5% of the population identified themselves as whites , 11.3% as African American , 0.6% as Indians and 2.5% as Asian Americans . 5.6% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 3.5% to several ethnic groups. 20.3% of the population were Hispanics or Latinos .
In 2010 children under 18 years of age and 18.5% of all households lived in 47.2% of all households with persons at least 65 years of age. 78.6% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.92 people and the average family size was 3.27 people.
32.1% of the population were younger than 20 years, 27.7% were 20 to 39 years old, 27.2% were 40 to 59 years old, and 12.7% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 35 years. 47.9% of the population were male and 52.1% were female.
The median annual income was $ 43,302, with 14.0% of the population living below the poverty line.
In 2000, English was the first language of 89.68% of the population and Spanish was spoken by 10.32%.
