NGC 7214 is a bar-spiral galaxy with an active nucleus of the Hubble type SBc in the constellation Piscis Austrinus in the southern sky . It is an estimated 312 million light years from the Milky Way , about 200,000 light years in diameter, and is a member of the Hickson compact group HGC 91 .
The galaxy IC 5168 is located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered by John Herschel on July 30, 1834 .
