NGC 7227 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type S0 in the constellation Lacerta in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 301 million light years from the Milky Way and about 115,000 light years in diameter. Presumably it forms a gravitationally bound galaxy pair together with NGC 7228 .
In the same area of the sky is u. a. the galaxy IC 5180 .
The object was discovered by Édouard Stephan on September 1, 1872 .
