NGC 7223 is a barred spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBc in the constellation Lizard in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 219 million light years from the Milky Way and about 90,000 light years in diameter. Together with PGC 214803 it forms the gravitationally bound galaxy pair Holm 788 . In addition, it is the brightest galaxy in the NGC 7223 group ( LGG 453 ).
The object was discovered by Wilhelm Herschel on November 8, 1790 .
