The Franconian Switzerland - Franconian Jura Nature Park, founded in 1968 (Franconian Switzerland-Veldenstein Forest Nature Park until 2018) is a nature park in northern Bavaria . Its extent is almost congruent with the natural spatial main unit of the Northern Franconian Alb , although the nature park is somewhat larger.
With an area of 2346 km², it is the second largest nature park in Bavaria after the Altmühltal nature park. The nature park is sponsored by the association Naturpark Fränkische Schweiz-Veldensteiner Forst e. V. based in Pottenstein . The current limits were laid down in an ordinance in 1995.
landscape
The heartland of the nature park is Franconian Switzerland with its romantic valley cuts, wide Jura plateaus, rocks, caves and numerous castles. In the east of the nature park lies the closed forest area of the Veldenstein Forest with pines and deer population. The Dolomitkuppenalb as well as the north of the landscapes Hersbrucker Alb and Oberpfälzer Jura are also part of the nature park.
Regions
The nature park extends over parts of the administrative districts of Middle Franconia , Upper Franconia and Upper Palatinate .
The Bayreuth district is largely part of the nature park area; it also includes parts of the districts of Bamberg , Forchheim , Kulmbach , Lichtenfels , Neustadt an der Waldnaab , Nürnberger Land and Amberg-Sulzbach .

The Franconian Switzerland - Veldenstein Forest Nature Park was officially designated as a nature park on July 14, 1995 by ordinance on September 1, 1995.

In addition to numerous local and regional hiking trails, the more than 500 km long Frankenweg and the Franconian Mountain Trail , opened in 2007 , run from Blankenstein on the Saxon Saale to Hersbruck .
