The November is the eleventh month of the year in the Gregorian calendar . He has 30 days . November begins on the same day of the week as March and, except in leap years, also as February .
etymology
Old German names for the Latin term November are Windmond (introduced by Charlemagne in the 8th century ), winter month and Nebelung . In the Netherlands , the month also was battle moon or Schlachte month called because at that time the Einschlachten the pig was common. Due to the numerous occasions to commemorate the dead, November is also known as the month of mourning .
In the Roman calendar was November originally (the ninth month lat . Novem = nine). In 153 BC However, the beginning of the year was brought forward by two months, so that the direct relationship between name and month count was lost. This is sometimes forgotten when transferring the previously often used Latin dates. Under Emperor Commodus the month was renamed Romanus , but after the death of the emperor it got its old name back.

The day of national mourning is always celebrated two Sundays before the 1st of Advent and is the day of remembrance for the fallen German soldiers of the two world wars. On Wednesday between the day of national mourning and Sunday of the dead is the day of penance and prayer , a holiday of the Evangelical Church on which one should turn more to God again. A Sunday before the first Advent is the Sunday of the Dead , where does the Protestant Church of the deceased. The Catholic Church celebrates Christ the King Sunday on this day . The 1st Advent is in four out of seven cases in November. With the 1st Advent the Advent season and the waiting for Christmas begins .
The Sunday before the 1st Advent also forms the last Sunday of the church year. However, the last day of the church year is, according to the church week definition (deviating from the DIN standard ), on the following Saturday; this can be no later than December 2nd, but in 5 out of 7 cases it is in November.

The average temperature of the earth near the ground had its November highest level since measurements began in 1881 in November 2013. The temperature average was 0.78 degrees Celsius above the average of 12.9 degrees. For the 37th year in a row, November was warmer than the average for the 20th century; the last cooler one occurred in 1976. The warmest November since weather records began in 2015 was recorded in Germany. The average value reached +7.5 degrees and was thus +3.5 degrees above the long-term average of +4 degrees. The coldest November dates from 1858 and, with a mean temperature of −0.8 degrees, reached a deviation of −4.8 degrees. The coldest day on November was recorded on November 28, 1915 at −25.9 degrees above the Zugspitze. The second coldest value comes from the year 1858 and was registered on November 23 at −24.4 degrees above the observatory in Jena.
