The Oakville Township is located in the extreme southeast of St. Louis County and borders in the east and southeast - separated by the Mississippi - on St. Clair County in Illinois. Over the Jefferson Barracks Bridge , Interstate 255 comes from Illinois to Missouri, where it forms the northern border of Oakville Township. Missouri State Route 231 runs between the Mississippi and the township's western border . All other streets within the township are inner-city connecting streets.

A Union Pacific Railroad , which is also used by Amtrak's long-distance passenger trains , runs along the right bank of the Mississippi . A BNSF Railway runs parallel to the western border of the township .

The Lambert-Saint Louis International Airport is located about 45 km north of Oakville Township.
