Initiative of the Upper Austria. State government

The first Upper Austrian townscape fair was held at the initiative of the Province of Upper Austria in 1991 in Viechtwang, a village in the market town of Scharnstein . An exhibition stand will be made available to the village and urban development communities and the village and urban development associations free of charge. An accompanying cultural program as well as the presentation of the regional economy and associations contribute to the fact that the number of visitors is considerable. Village development communities

In 1986, Dorf an der Pram was the first Upper Austrian municipality to set up a village development association based on models in Bavaria and Lower Austria , followed by Jetzingerdorf in the municipality of St. Roman . The first major event on the subject was a village renewal convention on November 8, 1988 in the town hall of Enns . Involving the local population in the village renewal concepts initially proved difficult. Part of the concepts, which were scientifically supported by an institute at the University of Graz under the direction of Franz Riepl and politically promoted by Helmut Kukacka and later by the regional councilors Josef Pühringer , Christoph Leitl , Josef Fill and Viktor Sigl , were village evenings, excursions and exhibitions. In 1992 the governor awarded the newly created title of consultant for village and urban development for the first time.

Association of village and urban development associations

The regional association of village and urban development associations was founded in Hallstatt on September 23, 2006 and has been the organizer of the Upper Austrian townscape fairs ever since. The goals of the association, to which more than one hundred Upper Austrian village and urban development associations have now joined, include the representation of the interests of rural areas in Upper Austria, especially in the context of village and urban development, the search for new ways to solve municipal problems, and cooperation with organizations that deal with rural areas in Upper Austria on a national or international level, the support of the rural area through advisory and training activities as well as the information and promotion of discussion, exchange of experience and joint action of its members, in particular through the organization of site image fairs.
