List of cities in Russia

Partisansk ( Russian Партизанск ) is a city in the Primorye region ( Russia ) with 38,659 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).

geography

Partisansk is located on the eastern flank of a southern branch of the Sichote-Alin , which extends to the coast of the Sea of Japan , about 170 km east of the regional capital Vladivostok and 50 north of the port city of Nakhodka . The city is traversed by several streams that flow a few kilometers to the east into the Partisanskaya River .

The city of Partisansk is administratively directly subordinate to the region.

A branch of the Trans-Siberian Railway runs through Partisansk , which connects it with the port of Nakhodka. Part of this route was built before 1906 as a narrow-gauge railway branching off from Ugolnaja (near Vladivostok) from the Transsib for coal transport (track width initially 600 mm, later partly 750 mm). As the volume of goods increased, the line was expanded to Russian broad gauge , while Partisansk was reached in 1935 and the line was extended to Nakhodka. The two-track line has been electrified since 1966.

history

Partisansk was founded in 1896 as a miners' settlement Sutschanski Rudnik (after the name of the river Partisanskaya, Sutschan , and the Russian rudnik for mine ). On April 27, 1932 the town charter was granted and the place name was shortened to Sutschan .

In 1972, as part of a campaign against geographical names of Chinese origin, it was renamed again, this time in Partisansk (also partisan for partisan in Russian ).

Culture and sights

Partisansk has a city history museum founded in 1978.

The area offers various natural beauties (rocks and waterfalls).

economy

There are significant coal deposits in the area around Partisansk , which were mined on a large scale during the Soviet era . Today, however, the coal mining that used to define the cityscape has practically come to a standstill. There are also companies in the light and food industry and the timber industry. Previously existing plants in the chemical-pharmaceutical industry and equipment manufacturing are also out of order.
