The village of Platanos ( Greek Πλάτανος ( m. Sg. )) Is located in the west of the Greek island of Samos at an altitude of 520 m. The nearest villages are Agii Theodori 1.5 km northwest, Kondeika about 2.5 km north and Koumeika 3 km south. Platanos can be reached via a serpentine road that branches off the main road from Karlovasi to Pythagorio .

The first settlers came from Euboea at the beginning of the 17th century , the place was first mentioned in 1632. The area around the village is dominated by agriculture, especially with vineyards. The wine production is the main income of the inhabitants.

Due to the location there is a far-reaching view of the island of Chios to the north, of the west of Samos, of the island of Fourni and further to the islands of the Dodecanese .

With the implementation of the municipality reform according to the Kapodistrias program in 1997, Platanos was incorporated into the municipality of Karlovasia. The 2010 administrative reform brought the former municipalities of the island together to form the municipality of Samos . Since the correction of the administrative reform in 2019 in two municipalities, Platanos has been part of the municipality of Dytiki Samos .
