Previous model | Porsche Cayman (type 981c) |
The Porsche 718 Cayman Type 982 is an after extensive facelift of the type 981 built mid-engine - sports cars of Porsche AG. Porsche itself describes it as the third generation. It has the same technical platform as the Porsche 718 Boxster (Type 982) presented at the beginning of 2016 .
history
The sports car was presented to the public at the Beijing Motor Show in April 2016. Porsche then merged the Boxster and Cayman under the 718 series. While the Cayman as a separate series with 987 and 981 was priced above the Boxster, the convertible version 718 Boxster is now the more expensive version - with the exception of the Cayman GT4 compared to the Boxster Spyder.
718 Cayman GTS and GTS 4.0
As with the previous model, the 718 Cayman and 718 Boxster are again available as GTS versions. It was presented in October 2017 and went on sale in mid-December 2017. In January 2020, Porsche presented the series as the GTS 4.0 . It took over the engine from the GT4 with 20 hp less power and went on sale in March 2020. The GTS with the 2.5-liter gasoline engine remained on offer until June 2020.
718 Cayman T
As with the 911 Carrera of the 991.2 series, Porsche is introducing a T-model for the Cayman. This is based on the basic Cayman and has an unchanged output of 220 kW (300 PS). In contrast to the 718 Cayman, the 718 Cayman T comes with the PASM sports suspension with lowering (minus 2 cm), Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV) including mechanical rear differential lock and the Sports Chrono Package as standard. A 6-speed manual transmission is standard; a 7-speed dual clutch transmission (PDK) is also available as an option.
718 Cayman GT4
As with the previous model, the GT4 version is the most powerful version of the series. It was presented on June 18, 2019 and, unlike the previous model, has a newly developed six-cylinder boxer engine. The 911 Carrera engines (type 992.1) served as the basis for the development. The displacement was increased from three to four liters and the use of turbochargers was dispensed with. The engine thus achieves an output of 309 kW (420 hp) and a torque of 420 Nm, which is available at speeds between 5,000 and 6,800 rpm.
As in the previous model, the 718 Cayman GT4 uses a chassis derived from the 911 GT3. The aerodynamics could be improved in comparison to the predecessor with 50% increased total downforce.
The 718 Boxster Spyder uses the same drive train.
technology
Instead of a six-cylinder boxer engine without supercharging as in the predecessor Cayman Type 981c , the 718 Cayman is powered by a four-cylinder boxer engine with a turbocharger . This means that Porsche is again offering four-cylinder boxer engines and is currently the only manufacturer of such an engine type alongside Subaru .
