Sabaya is a province in the southwest of the Oruro department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .
location
The Sabaya Province (formerly: Atahuallpa Province ) is one of 16 provinces in the Oruro Department. It lies between 18 ° 35 'and 19 ° 39' south latitude and between 67 ° 31 'and 68 ° 39' west longitude .
It borders in the north on the province of Sajama , in the west on the Republic of Chile and the province of Puerto de Mejillones , in the southwest on the Department of Potosí , in the southeast on the province Ladislao Cabrera and in the northeast on the province Litoral . The province extends from northwest to southeast, with a length of 160 kilometers and an average width of 50 kilometers.

The population of Sabaya Province has tripled in the past two decades:
- 1992 : 3,567 inhabitants ( census )
- 2001 : 7,114 inhabitants (census)
- 2012 : 10,924 inhabitants (census)
40.7 percent of the population are younger than 15 years. 92 percent of the population speak Spanish , 67 percent Aymara, and 9 percent Quechua . ( 2001 )
97.3 percent of the population have no electricity, 96.6 percent live without sanitary facilities ( 1992 ).
66.4 percent of the workforce work in agriculture, 1.6 percent in mining, 4.9 percent in industry, 27.1 percent in the service sector ( 2001 ).
59 percent of the population are Catholic, 32 percent are Protestant ( 1992 ).
