history

Until the 19th century

The name Reute goes back to an old expression for clearing . Reute is first mentioned in a document in the Lorsch Codex , which documents the donation of a property in Reuden in the years 772/773. However, the history of the settlement goes back much further. Archaeological findings in the Reute area show that there have been settlements here for thousands of years. Already around 100 AD, during the time of Roman rule , the area was used for agriculture. The Roman manors were abandoned around the 3rd century when Alemannic associations increasingly penetrated the Breisgau .

In 1008, Reute belonged to the property of the Sulzburg monastery . After the Zähringer population died out in 1218, the place went to the Counts of Freiburg and was part of Upper Austria from the 15th century . From 1612 onwards, the von Harsch family owned the place. The serfdom was abolished 1,783th In the course of the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss , the place fell to the Grand Duchy of Baden in 1805 , which assigned it to the Oberamt Freiburg .

Religions

Since the Reformation was not introduced in Austrian Reute, in contrast to the Baden villages in the vicinity , it remained a Catholic enclave in Protestant territory. Due to the increased influx of people in the past few decades, there is now a Protestant community in the village that has a community hall in Oberreute. She shares a pastor's office with the Protestant community of Vörstetten.
