Rolf Geffken (* 12. February 1949 in Wingst ) is a German lawyer for labor law , author and publisher , lecturer, China - and shipping expert .

Life

Geffkens father was Karl Geffken, headmaster in Bremerhaven , son of organist and teacher Johann Geffken in Geversdorf and grandson of the community leader of Westerwede , Hinrich Geffken, the 1902 squad declaration of spouses Clara Westhoff and Rainer Maria Rilke signed.

He put 1967 on School of Theodor Storm School in Bremerhaven , the High School and began in October 1967, the study of law at the University of Hamburg . In 1972 he passed the first legal examination and in 1976 the major legal state examination at the Hamburg Higher Regional Court . After passing his first exam, at the beginning of 1973 he was to be denied employment as a trainee lawyer because of the radical decree. There were national and international protests, especially from the Young Socialists and the ÖTV trade union . The reasons given by the then Justice Senator Seeler Geffkens membership in the MSB Spartakus , the book he wrote “ Class Justice ” and a hectographed paper entitled “Labor Law in Capitalism ”. However, the First Mayor Peter Schulz announced at a state party conference of the Hamburg SPD that Geffken would still be made civil servants.

In 1978 he received his doctorate on the subject of “ Seafarers' Strikes and Dock Workers Boycotts - Legal Problems of Labor Disputes on Land and at Sea” at the University of Bremen under Reinhard Hoffmann . In February 1977 he was admitted to the bar in Hamburg. Since 1984 he has held the additional title of specialist lawyer for labor law .

Professional activities

As a trainee lawyer he was the deputy chairman of a staff council in the Hamburg judicial administration and worked part-time as a consultant in trade union education work for the trade unions ÖTV and DAG , from 1977 also as a lecturer for labor law at the Hamburg University of Economics and Politics and as a lecturer at various trade union schools , but also at the University of Hamburg and the University of Oldenburg .

It mainly represents employees, works councils , staff councils and trade unions , but also seafarers and migrants . In numerous campaigns and petitions he advocated the special concerns of foreign seafarers and founded a corresponding advisory center.

In connection with the planned introduction of the International Maritime Register (ISR), at the request of the Green Party in 1988, he was heard as an expert by the Bundestag's transport committee and spoke out against the project mainly for socio-political and constitutional reasons.

Since 1995 he has given lectures at numerous universities in Asia, such as Manila , Taipei , Poona , Guangzhou and Beijing , organized the first German-Chinese conference on labor law in 2004 in Guangzhou and the first German-Chinese lawyers' conference in Tianjin in 2008.

For several years he was a member of the round table at the German-Chinese Rule of Law Dialogue in the Federal Ministry of Justice . The blocking of his website by the Chinese government because of his criticism of the Chinese legal development was the subject of two inquiries from the MP and former judge at the Federal Court of Justice Wolfgang Nešković in the German Bundestag .

Politician

In 1983 he joined the Green Alternative List in Hamburg and was a member of the regional executive committee there until 1990. From 1986 to 1988 he was a member of the Hamburg-Eimsbüttel district assembly . In 1990 he left the party and joined the SPD in 1992 , where he had been active in the Harburg district association since 1992 . In 2004, because of Agenda 2010 , he took part in the development of the “ Elective Work and Social Justice ” (WASG) in Hamburg. He has been a member there since the WASG merged with the PDS to form DIE LINKE . In 2005 he ran as a direct candidate for the Cuxhaven-Osterholz constituency for the Bundestag , and in 2008 as a direct candidate for the Cuxhaven constituency for the Lower Saxony state parliament .

Private

He is married and has two children. His daughter is the opera singer Gerphil-Geraldine Flores-Geffken, who lives in the Philippines . One of his brothers is emeritus professor of pharmaceutical chemistry at the University of Hamburg Detlef Geffken.
