Gottsfeld Castle is an abandoned castle in Gottsfeld in the Upper Franconian district of Bayreuth .

Gottsfeld Castle was the ancestral seat of the von Gottsfeld local nobility . The family died out in the 16th century, the castle fell into disrepair between 1535 and 1544. In the period between 1570 and 1606, next to the “Schloss am Bühl” a “Schloss am Weiher” was named, the exact location is no longer known. Wolf Ernst von Wirsberg acquired the property in 1570 until it was taken over by Margrave Georg Friedrich in 1598 . Margravine Marie had the palace rebuilt in 1606; it was finally destroyed in the Thirty Years' War in 1633.

From the time of the destruction there are two legends about the castle, The chest with the poodle and The wandering tombstone of Gottsfeld .

The cartographer of the Plassenburg Johann Christoph Stierlein drew up a detailed plan of the castle location in 1792. Today's street Am Schloßhof in the south of the village used to be the approach from Schwürz . There you can clearly see the elevation of the path over the valley depression with the quay ditch and buildings on the slope secure the path on both sides. The castle chapel from 1513 is recorded at the south-eastern end of the castle grounds. From the castle courtyard in the north, which is at the top of the elevation, Stierlein recognized the course from the remains of the wall. It was not until 1920/22 that the entrance arch including the gatekeeper's room was demolished. Today's buildings, the terrain and the course of the road still reveal the dimensions of the castle, the former castle courtyard is overgrown with trees. The castle fountain and a late medieval inscription panel from 1513, which is a listed building, still remind of the castle .
