history

The place name means "settlement on a stick dam ". The first mention was in 1579 in the course of a dispute between the bailiff von Raueneck and the Rotenhan over the jurisdiction of "the Specke". In 1620/1621 the Bishop of Würzburg banned the serving of wine and beer "on the bacon". In 1799, “Specken” was described as a single inn on Baunachstrasse and in 1840 as a farm with seven houses and 32 residents.

In 1812, the young Friedrich Rückert fell in love with the daughter Maria Elisabeth of the innkeeper Geuss from the “Zur Specke” inn. He dedicated the poem wreath “Amaryllis, a summer in the country” to her.

1862 was rural community Eyrichshof consisting of seven places, the parish village Eyrichshof, the three hamlets Short wind , seal field and Rotenhan and the three wastes , paper mill Sachsenhof and specks in the newly created Bavarian district office boars incorporated. Specke had 29 inhabitants in 1871. In 1900 the 573.75 hectare parish had 239 inhabitants, 230 of whom were Protestants and 8 were Catholics. In the Protestant Specke, 33 people lived in 6 residential buildings. The responsible evangelical parish and denominational school was in the neighboring village of Eyrichshof, 0.5 kilometers away. In 1925, 50 people lived in 6 residential buildings in the hamlet.

1950 Specke had 55 residents and 7 residential buildings. In 1970 there were 35 residents in the hamlet and in 1987 27 residents as well as 8 residential buildings with 11 apartments.

On July 1, 1971, Eyrichshof was incorporated with Specke after Ebern. On July 1, 1972, as part of the regional reform, the Ebern district was dissolved and Specke became part of the Haßberg district. The Protestant residents belong to the district of the parish Eyrichshof with parish seat in Fischbach , the Catholic to the district of the parish of St. Laurentius in Ebern.
