The state road 1066 or state road 1066 is an important road, a total of approx. 102 km long state road in north-eastern Baden-Wuerttemberg , in western Bavaria a state road .

The L 1066 or St 1066 serves, among other things, as a motorway feeder to the federal motorways 6 and 7 . As a former section of Bundesstraße 14 , it was downgraded to Landesstraße together with Landesstraße 2218 after the route of the B 14 from the junction Winnenden to Winnenden-West / Leutenbach had been relocated to a new line.

In the west it begins above Löwenstein on the federal road 39 and first leads over Spiegelberg and through the valley of the "Spiegelberger" Lauter . There it is part of the Idyllic Street . In Sulzbach an der Murr it meets the B 14 in the middle Murrtal and unites with it for a few hundred meters, whereupon the B 14 branches off to the left in Sulzbach and leads uphill via Mainhardt to Schwäbisch Hall , while the L 1066, which has right of way here, now like that The Waiblingen – Schwäbisch Hall-Hessental railway line runs eastwards in the upper Murrtal valley and continues to be signposted as an idyllic road.

The section between Sulzbach and Bartenbach, where there was once a small amusement park called the Märchengarten or Japangarten , is sometimes still called the Märchenstrasse, without this name having anything to do with the German Fairy Tale Route.

While the railway behind Murrhardt crosses under the watershed between the Murr and Kocher inflow systems in the Schanz tunnel, the L 1066 overcomes the obstacle above it on the Schanz pass . Beyond in Fichtenberg , the bypass was released on November 17, 2010, with which the L 1066 was relocated from the town center to the Rot. Since then, the route has bypassed the two level crossings there. At Unterrot, the L 1066 reaches the valley of the Kocher. The short north-south connection to Gaildorf is signposted as the B 298 , the local passage from Gaildorf as the B 19 .

From Gaildorf, the L 1066 leads uphill to the northeast and over the Limpurg Mountains to Obersontheim , where it crosses the Bühler valley before reaching the B 290 in Crailsheim via Frankenhardt .

The section from Crailsheim to Aurach bei Ansbach was once a section of federal highway 14 . After the construction of the A 6 , it took over the supraregional east-west connection between Schwäbisch Hall and Aurach, the old B-14 route was downgraded, from Crailsheim to the state border near Leukershausen to an extension of state road 1066, in Bavaria accordingly to state road 1066 This initially has a connection to the A 7 before it bypasses Feuchtwangen to the north and then meets the A 6 at Aurach. The further continuation from there via Ansbach to Nuremberg is still the B 14.

The street has received media attention because of several planned and implemented construction projects, for example by the Stuttgart regional council and the state of Baden-Württemberg in the Rems-Murr district and in the Schwäbisch Hall district . Since the condition of the road surface at Murrhardt was a "catastrophe" and the speed limit on some sections of the route had to be reduced from 70 km / h to 50 km / h due to the poor road conditions, the potholes were repaired in July 2011. The Spiegelberg – Sulzbach section was renovated from September 2011.

Heavy load and large-scale transport

The L 1066 in the Schwäbisch Hall district is part of the designated heavy-load and large-capacity transport route between Ravensburg and the Neckar - Heilbronn port . MAN Diesel routinely transports ship engines from the Augsburg plant to Heilbronn. The partially very narrow through-road in Fichtenberg was a particular obstacle for heavy traffic. At the beginning of February 2010, a 267 ton heavy transport with an 8 m wide autoclave oven for the construction of the large-capacity aircraft Airbus A350 on the way from Lauffen am Neckar to Augsburg also drove on the L 1066 from Sulzbach / Murr to Unterrot. Before Fichtenberg , the transport was parked on a section of the new bypass road until the two level crossings in the village were made passable. At the end of November 2010, shortly after the Fichtenberg bypass was released, a 390-ton, 70-meter-long transport was held up on the Rems-Murr district boundary near Fornsbach for a few days because the center distance of the truck did not correspond to the permit. Because this transport caused a bridge in Augsburg to sag by four centimeters due to the insufficient distance between the total of 20 modular axles, another transporter, which was 70 tons heavier, was stopped by the police in December and parked on the L 1066 for about a week and a half. before the journey could continue on an alternative route outside the Rems-Murr district.
