The Taganrogski Awtomobilny Sawod (Taganroger Automobilwerk, Russian Таганрогский автомобильный завод ) comes from the Ischmasch works and from 1987 produced automobiles under a VAZ license in the Russian city of Izhevsk . Since 2008, production has also been carried out in South Korea and since 2009 in Taganrog . The vehicles from TagAZ production can be recognized in the vehicle identification number by the manufacturer code X7M . In January 2014, the company filed for bankruptcy.

history

The main source of income for the Ischmash works was arms production, for which the city became famous nationwide. The automobiles, on the other hand, only found small sales and had to surrender to the Lada originals. Despite all this, production of the ISCH-2126 Orbit continued unchanged until 1998.

Ischmash finally expanded the plant to include two production lines and, through a joint venture with Daewoo Motor Corporation , founded the new Doninwest brand , which was expected to generate high sales. But the long and cumbersome transport route for the vehicle parts from Korea to the Taganrog automobile plant was very expensive and made the vehicles too expensive by Russian standards. So Doninwest Asso , Doninwest Orion and Doninwest Kondor did not sell well and the factories got into debt enormously.

The Doninwest brand name was finally dropped in 2000 and the production lines were also renewed. The Taganrog automobile plant now had a total of 10 production lines. The production of the second condor generation, which was based on the SsangYong Korando , was retained and the model now got its original name from SsangYong. The SsangYong Musso for the Russian market has now also been built on the second production line.

Negotiations with Pontiac , which had already been going on since 1998, provided the license to produce the current Grand Prix (sixth generation) in March 2002 , which ultimately remained in production until 2008. From 2005, the Hyundai Accent , Hyundai Sonata and Hyundai Porter models (winner of the Golden Steering Wheel in Russia 2009) also rolled off the assembly lines on the other production lines . In 2007, the first generation of the Hyundai Santa Fe and the Elantra luxury version Hyundai Elantra XD followed .

In the following year, the Taganroger automobile plant broke away from the Ischmasch group and now also completely bought the licenses of the ailing and bankruptcy protection company SsangYong Motors and now produces the models under the independent brand name Tagaz (ТагАЗ) for the Russian market. The Hyundai models have so far remained unchanged in production.

The current TagAZ products are the Tagaz Tager , Tagaz Road Partner as well as the Tagaz C100 Vega and the Tagaz Master truck . In 2009 the Vortex Estina was introduced. The older Santa Fe was renamed the Santa Fe Classic. Annual production is currently around 80,000 units / year. In January 2010, the Vortex Corda and the Vortex Tingo were adapted to the model range as the latest models . At the same time, the company also started production of the Hyundai County in different versions. The porter has meanwhile been given up.

At the end of January / beginning of February 2014, bankruptcy proceedings against the company were opened in a Russian court.
