action

Mickey Pearson, who has built up a sizable marijuana empire over the years , visits a London pub. He speaks to his wife on the phone, but quickly realizes that something is wrong. A man enters and Pearson appears to be shot by him while on the phone.

Raymond Smith, Pearson's right-hand man, is expected at home by Fletcher, a sleazy private detective. Fletcher was hired by Big Dave, the editor of the Daily Print , to snoop into Pearson's stores and check his connection with Lord Pressfield after Pearson had seriously offended Dave at a party. Fletcher Smith and Pearson is selling his research results and a script he wrote himself from them for £ 20 million as the price for his silence. In the following, the contents of his investigations are presented in the form of flashbacks:

Although the American Mickey Pearson came from a poor background, he managed to build a huge empire for himself over the years by selling marijuana (first to students from his private school, later to other dealers). In the meantime, however, he would like to retire with his wife Rosalind and sell his business as dearly as possible. He is offering it to Matthew Berger, an American billionaire, for £ 400 million. He has set up his numerous cultivation sites for marijuana underground on aristocratic country estates, the owners of which, as impoverished country nobles, collect a handsome commission from him. His planned sale also calls for Dry Eye , an underboss of the Chinese gangster Lord George. He also offers to buy Pearson's business, but he refuses.

A short time later, one of Pearson's cannabis farms is raided by young amateur boxers and youtubers, who overpower the guards there and steal a significant amount of marijuana. The thieves also upload a video of their attack on the Internet. These boy's boxing trainer, dubbed Coach , is horrified to discover that the cannabis belongs to Mickey Pearson, whose reputation he knows. So that his students don't get into trouble, Coach Smith offers the return of the stolen cannabis and, moreover, his services to pay off their debt.

After the incident, Pearson decides to grow his cannabis off-site, and he also offers Lord Pressfield to bring home his runaway, heroin-addicted daughter, Laura. Smith and some people pick her up from a drug house, but there is a fight with some of Laura's roommates. The young Russian Aslan accidentally falls out of the window and causes some commotion with his death, as the incident was seen and filmed by other young people.

The coach delivers Smith 'Phuc' - one of Dry Eyes' henchmen who revealed the location of Pearson's cannabis farm to the boxers. Pearson then assumes that Lord George is the mastermind behind it all. He threatens him and destroys one of his heroin laboratories in revenge. Lord George then wants to kill Dry Eye for his arbitrariness, but when he gives the order to shoot Dry Eye, he himself is shot. It turns out that Dry Eye and Berger were in cahoots as Berger hoped to lower the price of Pearson's marijuana empire through the hassle of cannabis theft and the unpleasant release of the video. Dry Eye, in turn, hoped to take his place and run the drug business himself after the assassination of Lord George.

To blackmail Pearson after the failure of his original plan, Dry Eye now plans to kidnap his wife Rosalind. Pearson, who is on the phone with his wife in the bar from the opening scene of the film, is saved at the same moment by Raymond Smith, who shoots an assassin who had sneaked up on Pearson - which is the opening scene of the film with the only apparent one Mickey's death is shown. Both rush to Rosalind, who has since shot two of Dry Eye's assistants with a two- shot Deringer , and Pearson shoots Dry Eye before he can rape Rosalind. This is where the flashbacks in the film end.

So Fletcher, who has figured out all of this and amassed ample evidence, gives Smith 72 hours to respond to the £ 20 million hush offer - otherwise he would give all of the evidence to Big Dave for publication. Smith apparently accepts the offer. He sends the coach and his students to Big Dave's publishing house, from where they kidnap him, drug him and film him having sex with a pig. They use the video to blackmail him into stopping his research and planned publications. Pearson confronts Berger with his knowledge of his plot with Dry Eye. He now wants to keep his marijuana business and asks for reparation for the business damage previously calculated by Berger himself 270 million pounds as well as “a pound of meat” from Berger's body for the attempted kidnapping and rape of Rosalind.

When Fletcher meets with Smith about the intended handover of the hush money, Smith reveals that he had known all along that Fletcher was following her and that he in turn followed him and found and saved all his copies of the evidence about Pearson's business. Fletcher then tells him that he also sold information about Pearson and Raymond Smith's involvement in his death to a former Russian KGB agent, who turns out to be the father of the injured Aslans, in order to receive even more money. One of the Russian assassins, who were then set to take revenge on Pearson, was already being killed by Smith in the bar when Pearson was on the phone with Rosalind. Two other assassins appear at Raymond's Smith house, but can be shot by the coach who accidentally becomes aware of them and realizes their intentions. In the resulting turmoil, however, Fletcher escapes. Mickey Pearson, who is kidnapped by two other Russians at the same time, is rescued by the coach's students by accident.

Fletcher later presented his script of the bizarre story to the Miramax film studio (the real-life film studio that The Gentlemen actually produced) as an idea for a film. When he then gets into a taxi, the driver turns out to be Raymond Smith. Rosalind informs her husband about it, and they both enjoy their togetherness.
