Theodor Karl Alexander Friedrich Philipp Graf von Bismarck-Bohlen , originally: von Bismarck (born June 11, 1790 in Schönhausen (Elbe) ; † May 1, 1873 in Karlsburg (Western Pomerania) ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

Theodor von Bismarck-Bohlen was the son of the captain in the 1st Elb Landwehr Infantry Regiment Ernst Friedrich Alexander von Bismarck (1763-1820) and Luise Henriette Dorothea, born von Miltitz (1771-1805). Prince Otto von Bismarck was a first cousin of Theodor Bismarck-Bohlen.

Career

Bismarck attended school Klosterbergegarten before 1805 as an ensign in the I. Battalion Guard of the Prussian army entered. In 1806 he took part in the battle of Auerstädt and was initially captured there with the Hohenlohe corps. With a patent from 1807 he was promoted to Second Lieutenant in the Guards on Foot Regiment in 1809 , where he was promoted to Prime Lieutenant in 1813 . During the Wars of Liberation he was seriously wounded in the Battle of Großgörschen , continues to fight a. a. before Dresden , Leipzig , Paris , where he was wounded again. For Großgörschen he had received the Iron Cross 2nd class. After his promotion to captain and company commander in the 29th Infantry Regiment , he distinguished himself in the battle of Ligny and received the Iron Cross 1st class. In addition to other skirmishes , he also took part in the Battle of Belle Alliance . In 1815 he moved to the 33rd Infantry Regiment . In 1819 he rose to major , in 1820 moved to the 34th Infantry Regiment and finally received in 1828, since his father-in-law had died and he had to manage the estate, his departure as a lieutenant colonel with permission to wear the regimental uniform.

In 1830 Bismarck became leader of the 2nd contingent at III. Battalion in the 2nd Landwehr Regiment and Knight of the Order of St. John . After he rose to colonel in 1843 , he was released from the Landwehr relationship in 1851 , but à la suite with the III. Battalion continued. In 1854 he received his second farewell as major general . In 1863 he was given the character of Lieutenant General and on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Battle of Großgörschen he was also awarded the Order of the Red Eagle First Class in 1863 .

Already in 1832 Bismarck was elected as a member of the knighthood of the Greifswalder Kreis in the provincial parliament of the province of Pomerania and in the municipal parliament of New Western Pomerania and Rügen . In 1842 he was appointed marshal of the state parliament . In 1847 he was a member of the United State Parliament . The municipal estates elected him in 1851 as Landkasten representative.

When his regiment was relocated to Stralsund in 1816 after the transition from Swedish Pomerania to Prussia , he met Countess Karoline von Bohlen (1798–1858) there, whom he married in 1817. On February 21, 1818, at the request of his father-in-law, the Hessian court marshal Carl Ludwig Wilhelm von Bohlen, after his death by King Friedrich Wilhelm III. of Prussia , together with the name and crest Association to Bismarck-Bohlen in the count conditions raised . The marriage had three children:

After the death of his wife in 1858 he had the Steinfurth grave chapel built as a family burial place.
