Tribeca Film Festival
The Tribeca Film Festival is a film festival that was launched in New York in 2002 by actor Robert De Niro and producer Jane Rosenthal .
background
The festival was intended to fill the Tribeca neighborhood near the former World Trade Center with new life.
In addition to one main competition, the international feature film competition, there are also prize categories in the documentary, short film and New York categories. In addition, the festival offers a forum for first performances.
The previous winners of the international competition include German actors such as Sibel Kekilli (Best Actress 2010) and Jürgen Vogel (Best Actor 2006).
In 2006, the rapidly growing festival was already larger in scope than the Sundance Film Festival founded by Robert Redford in 1978 .
The 19th edition, planned for April 15, 2020 to April 26, 2020, was postponed indefinitely due to the COVID-19 pandemic , and then later, from May 29, 2020, as an online film festival in cooperation with YouTube .
