Chernivtsi ( Ukrainian Чернівці ; Russian Черневцы Tschernewzy , Polish Czerniejowce ) is an urban-type settlement in Ukraine with about 3000 inhabitants (2012) and the administrative center of the Chernivtsi Raion .
geography
Chernivtsi is located in the south of the Vinnytsia Oblast at the confluence of the Murashka in the Murafa , a 163 km long tributary of the Dniester and on the territorial road Т – 0230 125 km southwest of the center of the Vinnytsia region . The village of Jossypiwka ( Йосипівка , ⊙ ) with about 150 inhabitants , located to the southwest, belongs to the Chernivtsi settlement council . In the east, the village of Masurivka connects to the settlement.
history
The village was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1392, until 1772 it was part of Poland-Lithuania in the Bracław Voivodeship . In 1961 it received urban-type settlement status.
Personalities
The Ukrainian politician and mayor of Kiev Leonid Kosakivskyi was born there in 1950 .
