Udomlja ( Russian Удомля ; until 1904 Troiza , Russian Троица) is a Russian city in Tver Oblast , central Russia . It is the administrative center of Udomlja Rajons and has 31,061 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).
Geographical location
The city lies in the lowlands of Vyshny Volotschok on the banks of the Peswo and Udomlja lakes , which are connected by a canal. Udomlja is located around 290 km northwest of Moscow and 225 km northwest of the regional capital Tver .
history
Already in 1485 Udomelski Pogost was mentioned as Volost of the Archbishops of Veliky Novgorod . The exact meaning of the name is not clear, but is probably of Baltic origin. Today's settlement, on the other hand, was not built until 1869 at the Troiza railway station (in German " Trinity ") on the Rybinsk - Ventspils railway line . In 1904 the place got its current name. Since 1961 Udomlja has had the status of an urban-type settlement and since September 11, 1981 it has city rights .

Economy and Transport
Udomlja has been a center of wood processing since the beginning of the 20th century . Food production ( large-scale dairy, etc.) is also important for urban industry . The Kalinin nuclear power plant ( Kalininskaja , commissioning in 1984) is located northeast of the city on Lake Udomlja and has a total output of 4,000 megawatts .
