history

In Talheim, whose possessions were divided among various Ganerbe shares in the Middle Ages , there were once three castles: The Upper Castle directly north above the town and further north, on what is now the northern edge of the town, on a promontory above the Schozach Valley, Ehrenberg Castle and the Lower Castle side by side .

Due to Romanesque structural characteristics, the development of the Lower Castle is dated to the time of the Hohenstaufen . Its builders and early residents are unknown. The facility was first mentioned in 1415, when Swigger Sturmfeder half of the facility Graf Eberhard III. from Württemberg to fief and was enfeoffed with it in 1417. The other half remained in Sturmfederscher allodial possession . In 1453 Hans von Frauenberg, Ursula Sturmfeder's husband, received the fief. In 1518 Eberhard von Frauenberg also acquired the storm spring half. Because of the former ownership of the Herren von Frauenberg , the complex is also known as the Frauenbergsches Schlösschen . The system came to the Barons of Gemmingen via the Lords of Sperberseck and the Barons of Racknitz .

By the director of the knightly canton of Kraichgau, Philipp von Gemmingen (1702–1785), husband of a born von Racknitz, the lower castle was renovated in 1766/67 in the Baroque style. A Gemmingen-Racknitz alliance coat of arms from the time of this renovation has been preserved above the main entrance. During the renovation, the last remaining stones of the neighboring Ehrenberg Castle , which has been used as a quarry since the 17th century, were removed, the area of which then merged into the castle park of the Lower Castle .

The Gilmer family acquired the property in 1833 and lived there until after the Second World War. The castle park was redesigned in its present form around 1900 by the Gilmer family. Inside there is a gazebo with columns from the Kilian's Church in Heilbronn as well as a spring room in which several springs are contained.

In 1985 the municipality of Talheim acquired the property and ran a kindergarten there; later the building was temporarily rented to a company. It now houses the Talheim day nursery.
