The community consists of the former communities of Unterschwarzach and Oberschwarzach. The village of Oberschwarzach and the village of Forsthaus belong to the former municipality of Oberschwarzach. history

Schwarzach was first mentioned in a document in 1143. In 1823 the community was divided into the independent communities of Unterschwarzach and Oberschwarzach. In the mid-19th century, around a third of the population emigrated to North America for economic reasons. On January 1, 1972, Oberschwarzach was incorporated into Unterschwarzach. On January 20, 1972, the community of Unterschwarzach was renamed Schwarzach.

The Unechte Teilorteschahl guarantees the districts a fixed number of seats: At least eleven municipal councils come from Unterschwarzach and at least three from Oberschwarzach.
