Administrative organization of the Grand Duchy of Würzburg
The administrative organization of the Grand Duchy of Würzburg (initially the Electorate of Würzburg ) largely corresponded to that taken over from Palatinate-Bavaria .
General
The Grand Duchy of Würzburg (Electorate of Würzburg until September 1806) existed from 1806 to 1814. It was formed from the parts of the Würzburg Monastery, which Palatinate-Bavaria had received in 1803 after the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss .
District courts and tax offices
In 1803/1804 Bavaria had completely broken with the previous administrative structure of the Hochstift Würzburg and abolished the previous offices. Instead, regional courts of the older order and associated tax offices were created. The 29 regional courts, which fell in the area of the former Hochstift Würzburg, were taken over as the lowest level of administration and jurisdiction in the Electorate of Würzburg and retained until the end. In addition to the name Landgericht, the name District Commissariat was also used.
In addition to the Würzburg monastery, the area in the HRR consisted of a large number of knightly and monastic territories. These partially lost their sovereignty between 1803 and 1806 and were assigned to the Bavarian regional courts. The remaining ones lost their sovereignty through the Rhine Confederation Act in 1806. Patrimonial courts were set up for some of these lords (especially those of the mild foundations) .
