Saint-Luxor church

Vignale is a municipality with 160 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Haute-Corse department on the French island of Corsica . It belongs to the Arrondissement of Bastia and the canton of Borgo .

Vignale is located in the northeast of Corsica at an average altitude of 589 meters above sea ​​level , 19 kilometers southwest of Bastia , the capital of the Haute-Corse department, and 10 kilometers north of the Corsica Regional Nature Park . Vignale is surrounded by the neighboring municipalities of Scolca , Lucciana and Prunelli-di-Casacconi . The municipality has an area of ​​10.69 square kilometers.

Culture and sights

The church of Saint-Luxor (Corsican Santu Lussoriu ) and the ruins of the Romanesque chapel of San-Luxorius are in the center of the village. Both buildings are dedicated to Saint Luxorius. The ruins of the Romanesque chapel of San-Gavino are east of the town center in the forest near the route départementale D607. There are also numerous springs in the forests there. To the north of the town center is the Cime des Taffoni mountain peak, 1117 meters high. In the southeast of the municipality you can see the valley of the Golo . To the north-west is the Bois de Malanotte forest . Until 2009, the A Ricuccata group held a three-day song festival called Canti di Quì in the church of Vignale every July .
