List of presidents of Argentina since the country gained independence.
At the head of the United Provinces of the Río de la Plata was initially a junta from 1810-1814 , then from 1814-1820 a Director Supremo . 1820–1826 and 1827–1852 there was no central government in Argentina. The individual provinces were independent states at this time, even if the province of Buenos Aires had a predominant position. Argentina became a federal republic with a presidential system through the constitution of 1853 , which is still valid today in modified form. The presidents marked with de facto in the table are heads of military governments who did not take office through constitutional channels.
If the president can no longer exercise his office, the vice-president is appointed president. Should this also not be able to exercise the office, the Provisional President of the Senate takes over the presidency. If this is also not available, the President succeeds the Chamber of Deputies .
