Wang Yue ( Chinese  王 玥 , Pinyin Wáng Yuè , born March 31, 1987 in Taiyuan , Shanxi Province ) is a Chinese chess player .

Life

He learned to play chess at the age of six. He studied at Nankai University in Tianjin .

successes

National team

In 2000 and 2002 he took part in the U16 Chess Olympiads with the Chinese national team. In 2002 in Kuala Lumpur , he won the gold medal with the team and received an individual gold medal for his result of 8.5 points from 10 games on the first board. At the Asian Games in Doha in 2006 , the Chinese national team won the silver medal with Wang on board 2, and at the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou they won the gold medal with Wang on board. Wang Yue participated in the 2004 , 2006 , 2008 , 2010 , 2012 and 2014 Chess Olympiads . In 2006 in Turin he won the silver medal on board 4 with the national team and received an individual gold medal for his result of 10 points from 12 games as well as an individual silver medal for his Elo performance of 2837, he won with the team in Tromsø in 2014 . He won the Asian team championships with China in 2008 in Visakhapatnam and 2012 in Zaozhuang , at the team world championships in 2011 and 2013 he came second with China. He also had the best result on the second board in 2011 and the third best result on the third board in 2013.

In China he has been playing for Tianjin since 2005 , with whom he became champions in 2013 . In Russia he played in 2010 for the Ekonomist-SGSEU-1 Saratov club , with which he also took part in the 2008 European Club Cup .

Single successes

In 1999 Wang was U12 world champion in Oropesa del Mar, Spain . At the U14 World Cup a year later at the same location, he finished second. He won the Chinese individual championship in Beijing in December 2005 . At the Aeroflot Open in Moscow in February 2007 , he finished in shared second place. He won the open in Cappelle-la-Grande in March 2007 in a tie-break. Wang achieved his greatest success so far in May 2008 when he shared the victory in the first tournament of the FIDE Grand Prix 2008-2010 in Baku with Magnus Carlsen and Vugar Gashimov . In August 2008 he was the best player at the NH Chess Tournament with 8.5 points from 10 games . In September 2010 he became student world champion in Zurich with 8.5 points from 9 games. At the turn of the year 2011/2012 he was the first Chinese player to win the Hastings Premier with 7.5 points from 9 games. He was able to secure the Chinese single champion title for the second time in April 2013 in Xinghua . Wang Yue qualified for the World Chess Cup four times ( 2005 , 2007 , 2009 and 2011 ).

Rating

With his highest rating to date of 2752, he was eighth in the FIDE world rankings in May 2010 and topped the Chinese Elo rankings. When he passed the 2700 limit for his Elo rating in October 2007, it was the highest rating that a Chinese chess player had since this rating was introduced in 1970.

He became a FIDE Master in 2000 and a Grand Master in 2004 .
