Wilhelm Sunder-Plassmann
Wilhelm Sunder-Plassmann , sometimes also Sunder-Plaßmann , (born June 23, 1866 in Liesborn , † September 28, 1950 in Wiedenbrück ) was a German architect .
Sunder-Plassmann built 65 Catholic churches in Westphalia and Emsland , often in collaboration with the Mainz church builder Ludwig Becker , of which around 40 were based on their own designs in the historicism style .
Life
Sunder-Plassmann was born the son of Joseph Sunder (1822–1903), a farmer in Liesborn, and his wife Elisabeth Plaßmann (1823–1883); the three older brothers all worked as builders or building contractors. From 1880 he received training from his brother Caspar in Soest and in 1885 he graduated from the Höxter building trade school . From 1885 to 1889 he worked in Münster and Warendorf . 1889-1896 further studies followed at the Technical University of Berlin-Charlottenburg and in Karlsruhe .
In 1896 he started his own business in Gelsenkirchen and in 1897 in Soest; from 1901 he worked again in Münster, where he worked as a cathedral builder from 1925 to 1946 .
Sunder-Plassmann's descendants are now also running the church building activities in the fifth generation.
