Wilhelm Albert von Ploetz (born January 10, 1825 in Wriezen , † April 30, 1885 in Charlottenburg ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

origin

Wilhelm came from the Neumark noble family von Ploetz . He was the eldest son of the Prussian major Otto von Ploetz (1792–1867) and his wife Julie, née Dahlhoff (1803–1884). His brother Otto (* 1834) became a Prussian major and, after his departure, advanced to general in the Egyptian army.

Military career

After attending the French grammar school and the cadet houses in Potsdam and Berlin , Ploetz was transferred to the 24th Infantry Regiment of the Prussian Army as a second lieutenant on August 9, 1842 . For further training, he completed the general war school from October 1846 to March 1848 and was then briefly assigned to the rifle factory in Sömmerda . In 1849, Plotz took part as a battalion adjutant in the suppression of the Iserlohn uprising as well as in the battles near Hornburg, Iffezheim and Muggensturm in Baden . At the beginning of April 1853 he became a regimental adjutant, rose a year later to prime lieutenant and in March 1858 was commanded to the 3rd combined reserve battalion. At the end of the month he was transferred to the Guard Jäger battalion . As a captain, Ploetz advanced to company commander at the end of June 1860 and was transferred in this capacity to the Rhenish Jäger Battalion No. 8 in Wetzlar on November 9, 1860 . In 1866, when he was promoted to major , Ploetz was given command of the III during the mobilization on the occasion of the German War . After the Peace of Frankfurt he was transferred to Stettin on November 4, 1871 as commander of the grenadier regiment "King Friedrich Wilhelm IV." (1st Pomeranian) No. 2 and promoted to colonel in mid-January 1872 . Ploetz was promoted to major general on June 29, 1877, and was assigned to the officers of the army on August 14, 1877 to lead the 25th Infantry Brigade in Münster . On September 8, 1877 he was appointed brigade commander and from the end of August 1878 he was also entrusted with the management of business as commander of Münster.
