Winora-Staiger is a German bicycle manufacturer that has existed since 1914. The Winora Group is now part of the Dutch Accell Group .

history

The racing cyclist Engelbert Wiener founded E. Wiener GmbH in Schweinfurt in 1914 , in which bicycles were manufactured and also sold by individual assembly.

In 1918 the first bicycle wholesaler was established in Schweinfurt and expanded in the following years. Bernd Seuffert, the founder's grandson, took over the company in 1956, which at that time was already producing around 6,000 bicycles a year. In 1963 the first Winora bicycle factory with an assembly line system was built in Schweinfurt. At the beginning of the 1980s a new bicycle factory was built to meet the increasing demand caused by the oil crisis and new health awareness.

In 1988 Winora took over Staiger (Stuttgart) and founded Winora-Staiger GmbH. In 1997 the company became part of the Derby Cycle Corporation , Cloppenburg. Susanne Puello, the great-granddaughter of the founder Engelbert Wiener, took over the management. In 2001 Winora-Staiger GmbH and E. Wiener Bike Parts GmbH & Co. KG merged to form the Winora Group. In 2002 the Winora Group was taken over by the Accell Group in Heerenveen , Netherlands.

The share of eBikes in total sales was 71 percent at the end of 2015.
