Jemmal is a city in the sahel of Tunisia, located about twenty kilometres south of Monastir. It is part of the administrative governorate of Monastir, and is the county seat of the Jammel Delegation which has a population of 55,272 people;[1] within Jemmal's municipality, there were 41,736 inhabitants at last estimate.[citation needed]
The city is well-known for its historic Grand Mosque, backed by the zaouïa Umm El Bouhlia Ezzine (famous holy city). It is at the center of a region of olive groves. A festival takes place during the olive harvest season in November or December of each year. It is also an important industrial center, most notably for textiles and manufacturing. The manufacturing industry also occupies about half of Jemmal's active population. An industrial zone there was established in 2005 on 7.5 hectares, along the road which connects Jemmal to the town of Moknine.
In sports, it is distinguished by its rugby team, the Future of Sports Jemmal. FSJ was a finalist at the cutting Tunisia national rugby union team (juniors and seniors), and winner of the 2005 championship against the team of Nabeul.
