Champion of the Austrian ice hockey league 1980/81 was for the first time in the club history of the EC VSV .

mode

The eight clubs played against each other four times in the regular season. The best four clubs qualified for the championship round consisting of two rounds, the remaining four played in the relegation group to remain in the Bundesliga. The teams took 4, 3, 2 or 1 bonus points depending on their placement in the basic round.
